Application:
- Mineralization is one of the main strategies for long-term carbon storage.
- Existing methods react crushed rock with carbonic acid (water and dissolved CO2) to create carbonate minerals.
- This process is very slow, taking years or decades.
Our innovation:
Our revolutionary approach reacts rock or building waste with oxalic acid at room temperature and pressure to create oxalate minerals.
We achieve high conversion in a matter of days to weeks.
The process is also twice as efficient because oxalate contains 2 carbon atoms.
Advantages:
- >1000 times faster than carbonate mineralization (full conversion in days to weeks).
- 2 times more efficient than carbonate mineralization (oxalate ions contain 2 carbon atoms in contrast to just 1 in carbonate minerals).
- Reaction occurs at room temperature and pressure (no extra energy required).
- Oxalate minerals are non-hazardous.
Opportunity:
We are seeking collaboration with energy or petrochemical companies, or companies involved in carbon storage.
